Saurabh and Muskan, who married in 2016 out of love, experienced marital discord after Saurabh left his job to spend more time at home, leading tiled by tensions with his family and eventual relocation to a rented house.
The couple had a six-year-old daughter. However, their relationship faced significant strain over the years, with allegations of substance abuse and neglect on Muskan’s part .
In 2019, Muskan reconnected with Sahil Shukla, a childhood acquaintance, through WhatsApp, leading to an extramarital affair . Despite considering divorce, Saurabh chose to rejoin the Merchant Navy for his daughter’s future and left the country for work in 2023.
The Fateful Night
Saurabh returned home on February 4 to celebrate his daughter’s sixth birthday on February 28. Unbeknownst to him, Muskan and Sahil had plotted his murder. On the night of March 4, Muskan and Sahil drugged Saurabh by mixing sedatives into his food. Once unconscious, Sahil stabbed him multiple times in the heart, with Muskan assisting in the act. They then chopped up his body and dismembered it into 15 pieces. They sealed the body parts in a drum filled with cement, which they kept in their residence.
According to the police investigation, The couple had been arguing frequently, and Saurabh had discovered Muskan’s affair with Sahil. Muskan had been seeking a way out of the marriage, and Sahil had promised to help her.
A Web of Deceit
Shockingly, after committing the murder, Muskan and Sahil went on a vacation to Himachal Pradesh, attempting to maintain normalcy .
To avoid suspicion, Muskan sent WhatsApp messages from Saurabh’s phone, pretending that he was still alive and would return after Holi. The messages were an attempt to mislead Saurabh’s family and friends, who were frantically searching for him.
As the days passed, Saurabh’s family grew increasingly worried, but Muskan continued to send messages, reassuring them that Saurabh was safe. The family had no idea that Saurabh’s life had been brutally cut short.
The Discovery
When Saurabh failed to respond to calls from his family for several days, they grew suspicious and contacted the police. The crime came to light on March 18, leading to their arrest .
The crime was only discovered when neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the couple’s residence. The police were called, and upon investigation, they found the drum containing Saurabh’s body parts.
Investigation
Upon investigation, police detained Muskan and Sahil, who eventually confessed to the murder during
interrogation. They revealed the location of Saurabh’s remains, but initial attempts to break the cement in the drum with a hammer and chisel were unsuccessful.
The drum was subsequently moved to mortuary, where a drill machine was used to retrieve Saurabh’s remains, 14 days post-mortem. The murder was a brutal and calculating act, driven by a desire for freedom and financial gain.
