Anglo-Eastern Ship Management is one of the most sought-after companies for aspiring seafarers,  known for its rigorous selection process and high training standards. In this guide, we’ll walk you  through the admission process for the sponsorship program, along with how IMUMATE coaching can  help you secure a spot in this prestigious institute. we’re going to dive deep into the Anglo-Eastern  Shipping Management sponsorship process—one of the most sought-after sponsorships for anyone  aspiring to join the merchant navy in India. If you’re considering a career at sea, this is the company  you’ve probably heard of first. Let’s break down everything you need to know, step by step.

Why Anglo-Eastern?

Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) is one of the most recognized institutions in India for  maritime training. Known for its rigorous selection process, Anglo-Eastern ensures that only the best  candidates make it through. If you’re serious about a career in the merchant navy, this is where you  want to be.

Sponsorship Process Overview

The sponsorship process at Anglo-Eastern is thorough and consists of three main steps:

1. Written Test

2. Interview

3. Medical Examination

Let’s take a closer look at each of these steps.

Step 1: Written Test

The written test is the first hurdle. Anglo-Eastern conducts this test across various cities in India, and  it typically covers the following areas:

  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM)
  • Aptitude
  • English

You have 2 hours to complete 100 questions, which tests not just your knowledge but your time  management skills as well. It’s crucial to practice beforehand, especially focusing on past questions  and sample papers. It’s also important to approach the test with confidence and a calm mindset.  Your attitude during the test can significantly impact your performance. Stay positive and manage  your time wisely.

Step 2: Psychometric Test

After the written test, candidates undergo a psychometric test, which is considered one of the  toughest parts of the selection process. You’ll be given 240 questions to answer in just one hour,  meaning you have approximately 15 seconds per question. The test assesses your mental agility and  personality traits, and most candidates fail at this stage due to the high-pressure environment.

To excel in this section, thorough preparation is key. At IMUMATE, we offer special classes specifically tailored for this psychometric test. These sessions include mock tests and personalized feedback to  help you improve your speed and accuracy.

Step 3: Interview

If you pass the psychometric test, you’ll be invited for an interview. This is where things get even  more challenging. Anglo-Eastern conducts two types of interviews depending on your location:

  • For Mumbai Candidates: One in-person interview at the center and another online.
  • For Other Candidates: A single interview, typically held in Delhi.

The interview begins with a written task where you’ll be asked to write on a given topic. This might  seem like a simple exercise, but it’s a crucial part of the evaluation process. Anglo-Eastern pays close  attention to your grammar, spelling, and overall thought process. Many candidates are rejected at  this stage due to minor mistakes, so take it seriously.

After the written task, you’ll face a series of personal and technical questions. The interviewers at  Anglo-Eastern are known for their rigorous questioning, particularly in the technical section. A single  mistake here can lead to disqualification. That’s why we, at IMUMATE emphasize thorough  preparation, including mock interviews and regular practice sessions at our institute. Even if you’re  technically sound, how you present yourself can make or break your chances. Approach the  interview with confidence, but also with humility and a willingness to learn.

Step 4: Medical Examination

The final step is the medical examination. This is a standard procedure to ensure that you meet the  physical requirements to work at sea. Once you clear this, you’re officially on your way to joining  Anglo-Eastern! The requirement include-

General Fitness: All applicants must pass a medical examination conducted by a doctor approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). This exam ensures the candidate is physically fit for the  rigors of working onboard a ship. These include checking for any physical deformity and fractures.

Vision Standards: Candidates preparing for deck cadets must have 6/6 vision in each eye without  corrective aids and must not have color blindness, which is tested to meet the safety standards  required at sea.

(Note-if you do not have perfect vision 6/6 go for Lasik surgery)

Medical Conditions: Applicants should not have any conditions that would interfere with their  ability to perform duties on board, such as chronic diseases or disabilities. Special attention is given  to hearing and cardiovascular health.

BMI and Physical Standards: Candidates are required to meet appropriate weight standards to  ensure their fitness and agility. A body mass index (BMI) within the healthy range is recommended.
